Financial Security Assurance Inc. (FSA), our principal operating subsidiary, is one of the leading monoline financial guaranty companies. It has been assigned Triple-A ratings, the highest ratings available, from Fitch Ratings (Fitch), Moody's Investors Service, Inc. (Moody's), Standard & Poor's Ratings Services (S&P) and Rating and Investment Information, Inc. (R&I). FSA provides Aaa/AAA/AAA default protection to investors in investment-grade municipal and public infrastructure financings and asset-backed securities, while helping the issuers of those obligations reduce their funding costs and achieve their financial objectives.
We operate under a regulatory regime that limits FSA's activities to financial guarantees and related products and protects against a sudden loss of liquidity by prohibiting acceleration of our guaranteed issues without our consent.
In our financial products segment, non-insurance subsidiaries issue customized FSA-guaranteed investment products and invest the proceeds in high-quality, liquid securities to generate spread income.
